A multi-cloud world is quickly becoming the new normal for many enterprises. But embarking on a cloud journey and managing cloud-based services across multiple providers can seem overwhelming. Even the term multi-cloud can be confusing. Multi-cloud is not the same as hybrid cloud. The technical definition of hybrid cloud is an environment that includes traditional data centers with physical servers, private cloud with virtualized servers as well as public cloud provisioned by service providers. Quite often, multi-cloud simply means that an organization uses multiple public clouds from many vendors to deliver its IT services. In other words, organizations can have a multi-cloud without having a hybrid cloud, or they can have a multi-cloud as part of a hybrid cloud.

Today, hybrid cloud is increasingly the norm, and enterprises are challenged with ways to have visibility, manage and make use of all this data – both on-premises and in the cloud. While much attention has been given to primary data affecting mission-critical workloads, data for secondary workloads – backup, test/dev, disaster recovery, and archiving to name a few – have become siloed the same way application data has, leading to multiple point solutions to manage an increasing amount of data. This white paper looks at the evolution of these challenges and offers practical advice on ways to store, manage and move secondary data in hybrid cloud architectures while extracting the hidden value it can provide. This white paper considers the pressures that enterprises face as the volume, variety, and velocity of relevant data mount and the time to insight seems unacceptably long. Most IT environments seeking to leverage statistical data in a useful way for analysis that can power decision making must glean that data from many sources, put it together in a relational database that requires special configuration and tuning, and only then make it available for data scientists to build models that are useful for business analysts. The complexity of all this is further compounded by the need to collect and analyze data that may reside in a classic datacenter on the premises as well as in private and public cloud systems. This need demands that the configuration support a hybrid cloud environment. After describing these issues, we consider the usefulness of a purpose-built database system that can accelerate access to and management of relevant data and is designed to deliver high performance for t

Welcome to Secure Hybrid Cloud For Dummies, IBM Limited Edition. The hybrid cloud is becoming the way enterprises are transforming their organizations to meet changing customer requirements. Businesses are discovering that in order to support the needs of customers, there is an imperative to leverage the highly secure IBM Z platform to support missioncritical workloads, such as transaction management applications. The Z platform has been transformed over the years. The combination of z/OS, LinuxONE, open APIs, and the inclusion of Kubernetes has made IBM Z a critical partner in the hybrid cloud world. Businesses can transform their IBM Z environments into a secure, private cloud. In addition, through IBM’s public cloud, businesses may take advantage of IBM Z’s security services to protect their data and applications.

IDC believes that software-defined storage (SDS) continues to transform IT deployment and consumption of storage resources. For enterprises, SDS is really an on-ramp to deploying a hybrid cloud — one that allows a metered on-demand consumption of private and public cloud resources. Deploying SDS therefore is not a question of "if" but a question of "when."

The role of IT is changing from a traditional focus on cost-efficient enablement to a more strategic contribution. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), while important, is being surpassed by a growing focus on automation and orchestration that is needed to fulfill enterprise demands for security, agility, and innovation. The cloud-grade enterprise network – spanning the campus, data center, and branch – must be able to respond to rapid changes in business, growing reliance on hybrid cloud architectures, and the needs of users and customers. This IP Networking Comparison Guide examines the four key areas driving enterprise network priorities and looks at key factors within each. This document will give you a clear perspective on how the various options stack up on the most important features and capabilities necessary to meet your transformation needs.

Application performance and delivery have changed. Should your network change too? Cloud is changing the fundamentals of how IT teams deliver applications and manage their performance. Applications are increasingly deployed farther from users, crossing networks outside of IT’s direct control. Instead of enterprise data centers, many apps now reside in public and hybrid cloud environments. There are even new breeds of applications, built upon microservices and containers. Today, IT needs modern solutions that: ? Extend on-premises networks, apps, and infrastructure resources to the cloud. ? Maintain high levels of performance, user experience, and security across all applications, including microservices based apps. ? Sustain operational consistency across on-premises and cloud environments. ? Move away from the expense, complexity, and poor performance of traditional networking methods. These solutions are available for apps running on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) through the allia

How can IT achieve the flexibility and agility it needs to offer multiple types of applications in multiple locations? Just as enterprises take advantage of applications hosted in multiple locations (i.e., public clouds, private clouds, or SaaS applications), they take advantage of different networks for different reasons (i.e. performance, backup, remote access). These could be MPLS links, ATM links, traditional Internet connections, or VPN lines. Enterprises, in effect, are already building hybrid networks, and those combined with the elements of hybrid clouds create the hybrid enterprise.

As enterprise computing has evolved, businesses have been shifting to a “hybrid enterprise” where core applications and data can be located in private data centers and public clouds. The growth of hybrid cloud deployments accelerated the transition to hybrid wide-area networks (WANs). Private networks, such as MPLS, are being joined by Internet connections that offer a choice in delivery channels—costly, but predictable, networks for mission-critical loads and cheaper public networks for bulk loads such as data backups.
